Barry Likumahuwa
Born in Jakarta June 14th, 1983 in a family that plays jazz for a living, from dad a trombonist, flutist, bassist & a saxophonist. His name is Benny Likumahuwa, a very well known jazz musician in indonesia. While mother a singer, who specializes in brazillian music such as samba & bossanova, but also sings swing jazz standards, they had a group called The Jazz Riders.
Raised in a jazz & sometimes soul/funk musical enviroment had made Barry fall in love with music itself. Proven by the fact that he was able to blow the trumpet at the age of 4, while sometimes whistle some of standard mainstream jazz tunes such as “Someday my prince will come”, “Bluesette”, and lots of other tune with a simple based melody line. Attracted to the bass guitar at 11, after watchin’ John Pattitucci playin’ live with Chick Corea Electric Band at the JakJazz Festival, and started to learn how to play the instruments autodidactly.
After 6 years learning how to play the instrument all by himself he finally attended a music course when he was 17 at the Farabi Music Course for 2 years. *achievements -Best Bassist Wagega Music Festival, 2001 -1st Winner of Indonesia Music Festival Bass Category held by fender, 2003 -Best Bassist Asian Beat Festival Jakarta Final, 2003 -Music Director for “Tribute 2 Cheist Kayhatu”, Java Jazz Festival, 2006 -Music Director for “Tribute 2 Karimata”, Java Jazz Festival, 2007 *discography -Glenn Fredly, “Selamat Pagi, Dunia” repackage, 2004 -Parkdrive, “parkdrive”, 2005 -Glenn Fredly, “Cinta Silver”, 2005 -Bass Heroes, 2006 -Glenn Fredly, “Terang” christmas album, 2006 This year Barry Likumahuwa is focusing on accomplishing his solo album. “Hope you like my music, and feel free to send any suggestions and critics for me, I’ll be glad to hear it from you!!”
He assembled the new composure of band and had created the first album of Barry Likumahuwa Project “Goodspell” which has a single called “Mati Saja”.
